We didn’t start out as Fixers at the beginning. No, we were in fact part of a homicidal Syndicate. Just see how intimidating we look.

–McCullin

McCullin is a Fixer of the brutal Hook Office. He first appears in the same Chapter, Episode 1.

Appearance[]

McCullin is bald but has what appear to be two bolts stuck into his head, as well as a stitched-up scar. He has dark skin and a white mask which shows black eyeholes, a sharp smile, and a crack across it over his face. He wears a black jacket with a white t-shirt with red stripes under it, and black gloves. On his lower half, McCullin has brown trousers with a chain attached to in on the right side and black shoes with three white dots on them. In combat, he uses a large machete that he always carries in one hand.

Personality[]

McCullin is a calm man but still baleful and quite serious, and he shares a firm bond of camaraderie among his colleagues.

Story[]

McCullin has been part of the Hook Office for an unspecified amount of time.

In his past, Naoki and McCullin, along with other people, used to be together in a Syndicate from District 23 that was infamous for holding their killed targets on the open streets, hanging them from hooks. They spent time dealing with tasks given by poor people who couldn't afford the prices of the Offices and Associations. They were friends with the Axe Gang, another Syndicate of their area, and used to cause trouble together. Later on, they recruited Taein, and after some more raids to other Offices, the operator of one them came over to their Syndicate and told that wanted people like them. The members of the Syndicate accepted, now becoming officially Fixers of the Hook Office. Although their work consisted of the same methods of gruesome executions and hanging corpses from hooks to send messages to the others, they still find it strange how they got hired by an Office. Even with them joining an Office, the Axe Gang has no grudge towards them for doing so.

In the first Episode of Hook Office, Taein, McCullin, and Naoki are some undisclosed location in the Backstreets discussing their last job of yesterday and about Taein's new bionic weapon, as they got excessive with their destructive attacks and killed more people than they should have, and since it was their mistake, they wouldn't get paid by the additional kills. Taein points out that Naoki was the one who spent more time on the rampage and that McCullin had to calm her down. After expressing she was sorry, McCullin doesn't mind as he still owes them a few things, and that now they must remain low.

Afterward, they reflect how they ended up in their new Office in the first place; due to their Syndicate's methods and outfits that made them stand out, Hook Office hired them so that it would also stand out. Naoki comments that it feels more like a pack of Rats than a proper Office. Just then, McCullin gets a message from their operator and they are informed that their next work is to handle the Library. Along with additional Hook Fixers, the group is given the Invitation and they are instantly transported to the Library.

On their arrival, Angela greets them but Taein attempts to strike first but doesn't harm Angela due to her body. Soon Naoki notices that Angela is not human and to the Hook Fixers' surprise, discover she is an AI, now thinking of how much they are going to profit from this task. The group enters after Angela leaves.

Eventually, McCullin falls in the Reception along with Naoki, Taein, and some of Hook Office's other Fixers, and is turned into the Book of McCullin which contains his Key Page.

Key Page story[]

McCullin’s Page

It’s not entirely impossible for a Syndicate member to engage in Fixer work or vice versa. It’s a pretty common occurrence, actually. If you have the skills to back yourself up, multiple organizations will make sweet offers to recruit you. What matters the most here is the relationships you’ve built. Your fate depends on the things you’ve done, or karma in other words.

We didn’t start out as Fixers at the beginning. No, we were in fact part of a homicidal Syndicate. Just see how intimidating we look. We used to be murder for hire in District 23. It was a small Syndicate ran by Naoki, I, and a few others, but our influence started to expand bit by bit since the young and talented Taein joined us. Our current boss… was originally the representative of an Office we raided. They visited us once they heard that we shredded their Fixers brutally and hung their ragged corpses on the streets like scarecrows. Said they’ll need people like us.

I thought they were just freaky with weird tastes, but looking back, now I get why they chose us. It’s a strategy. Each Office does all kinds of sensational stunts to attract the attention of potential clients in this oversaturated market. They hold radical events such as “Pay for one request, get one for free”, or group weapons into different grades and offer a free exchange for one of their most expensive ones. And the gullible clients fall for it. They don’t know how much more that “one plus one” deal actually costs, or how it has limitations on the grades of requests you can make… They don’t bother looking up to check if the top-grade weapons are in fact used ones. Seems our boss didn’t want to add lies to this industry that’s already full of filthy schemes, but they still had to catch people’s eyes somehow. And this is the result: hire guys like us and proudly advertise it. ‘Fixers from a former killer Syndicate will tear things up for you! You can count on us!’ Hang up a slogan like this, people get hooked up. If that suits their taste, that is.

Combat Dialogue

Combat Dialogue
Combat Entrance
  • Sigh… My body’s still feeling sore. A shame I can’t fight in my best condition.
  • Careful there. This is gonna hurt bad if it hits you in the wrong spot.
  • We’re fully prepared for this.
Victory Cry
  • Well, money is one thing, but it’s just a bit too anticlimatic to turn into books right after death.
  • I was expecting to have some small fun with your bodies, like tearing them apart and hanging ‘em on a hook. …That’s a bit unfortunate.
Death
  • It’s… not over yet… I can’t fall to the likes of you, I’m better than that…!
  • They got me good… This can’t be happening…!
On Ally Death
  • A fitting end for a rash idiot like you.
  • I’ll avenge your death.
  • Should have been a bit more careful.
On Kill
  • Why’d you bother holding out if you were gonna get wrecked anyway.
  • What? Come on, you can’t die so soon, I didn’t even get started with the real fun.
  • Weaklings, weaklings everywhere.
