They might be just using a no-name Office like us as bait to test the waters ‘fore they do it themselves.

Story[]

Episode 1[]

Pre-Battle[]

The scene begins with the Molar Fixers in a WARP train station, waiting for the train that will take them to Nest L. Rain questions Olga on whether she saw the message they received from T Corp. However, Olga is heavily hungover, and Mika explains that Olga spent all night partying and drinking with her friends in the Backstreets, and used their Office funds to pay for it, much to Rain's disappointment. At that point, the WARP station's PA system plays, announcing the imminent arrival of WARP train UW-212, which the Molar Fixers are to board.

Hearing the announcement, Olga complains about how WARP train rides disorient her, and Rain warns her not to "make an arse" of herself like she did sometime before. Mika pulls their discussion back to their upcoming assignment, and Rain voices his doubts about the trustworthiness of their client, R Corp, fearing that their Office is being used as bait. Olga throws their concerns aside, announcing their client to be Myo, the captain of the Rabbit Team, much to her partners' surprise. She takes the opportunity to boast about her seeming good fortune on the deal she made with Myo and vouches for her trustworthiness.

After hearing the boarding announcement, the Molar Fixers prepare to take their seats on the WARP train. They overhear a conversation between two other passengers, Tommy and Merry; Tommy is nervous because he is taking a WARP train for the first time and fears the possibility of an accident, but Merry reassures him that she will be by his side. This annoys Olga, who complains that she might vomit (and force Rain to clean it up if she does, to his displeasure.) Entering the train, the Molar Fixers are confused by the use of seatbelts for a supposedly 10-second ride. Tommy and Merry are seated nearby, and their interactions annoy Olga. She chooses to take a nap despite the short travel time, telling Rain and Mika to wake her upon arrival.

An hour passes and the train has not arrived at its destination. Rain and Mika wake Olga in a hurry to tell her of the situation. 6 hours in and with no change to their situation, they can do nothing but sit and wait to see what comes of their misfortune; WARP Corp. has not had any accidents for the past ten years. Agitated, Olga says she will try to cut the train doors open, but Mika warns her that she will get sucked out into space if she does so, dissuading her. After 17 hours, even the other passengers have begun to grow visibly agitated. Olga, unwilling to sit still any longer, has her group cut off their seatbelts.

31 hours into the ride, Olga has begun attempting to break the doors open to no avail. Rain and Mika note how the rest of the passengers are also becoming more desperate and how nobody in the train is affected by hunger or thirst despite the passage of time. Desperate for escape, Olga presents a 'gamble'. She reveals the Invitation she received from Myo, and Rain hands over a pen so the three can escape the train.

Back in the Library, Roland is surprised that the Singularity of W Corp. could malfunction so severely. Roland confirms to Angela that WARP train rides should take 10 seconds maximum, and a 30-second delay would already deal a major blow to W Corp's image, let alone a 30-hour delay. Angela shrugs the matter aside and moves on to note the mention of Myo, whom she knew from her time in L Corp, and the likelihood of meeting her as a future enemy. Roland is intrigued by Angela's connection but does not seem overly concerned about the prospect of facing Myo and R Corp. in the future.

The Molar Fixers arrive at the Library's entrance, with Olga praising the speed of the Invitation's teleportation and her own quick thinking, but is still faced with Rain's and Mika's doubts about R Corp. and their safety, to her annoyance. At this point, Angela arrives to greet her guests. Olga immediately greets her back, followed by an apology from Rain for Olga's actions and hangover. Olga, given information from Myo, points out Angela to be a machine and begins to interrogate her about the Library's relation to L Corp, remarking that Angela's presence is "indisputable evidence" of some connection between the two. Olga's fellow Fixers try to convince her not to anger Angela, and Angela tells them to seek answers in the Books instead, allowing them into the Library.

Post-Battle[]

Following the defeat of the Molar Fixers, Roland asks Angela why R Corp, a military company, would be interested in the Library. Angela tells Roland about the business relationship between L Corp, R Corp, and W Corp, and concludes that L Corp's sudden collapse would naturally lead R Corp. to seek answers on what happened to its major client. Roland comments on the collusion of multiple Wings, but Angela simply tells him not to take it out on her, claiming she could only ever follow orders while working under L Corp. Roland seems to accept this.

Background[]

Molar Office is notable for its volatile nature. Its members constantly bicker with each other, and they often carelessly overlook the general practices of contracts (though this is mainly due to Olga's antics.) This works to their detriment; for instance, Olga recently completed a major request but was not paid for it because she forgot to form a contract regarding the request.[2] This impulsive manner also shows up in their approach to combat. The Office takes a reckless full-offensive approach in order to wipe out its targets immediately, which concerns many of its clients - although not all of them dislike this method. Despite this, the members of Molar Office still share a close bond and rely on each other cooperatively in order to overcome their enemies and successfully complete their work.[1] It is unknown how long the Office has operated for, as well as how long each of the Fixers has been part of the Office.

Olga has been a long-time friend and Fixer colleague of Myo ever since they met in the Backstreets, but they grew distant after Olga joined Molar Office. The night before the episode started, Myo invited Olga out to drink with her at a pub in the Backstreets. After reconnecting with each other, Myo gave Molar Office an unofficial request by handing Olga an Invitation and tickets for a WARP train to investigate whether the Library was connected to the collapse of L Corp.[3] Myo gave Olga info about Angela, the machine that handled L Corp's main facility within its Nest, and indicated that if she was located in the Library, the connection between the two entities would be proven.

At the same time that Molar Office was at the WARP train station, they were shadowed by Fixers from Gaze Office, who planted a tracking device given by Cane Office on them to study the Singularity of W Corp. However, the events inside the WARP train derail their plan, especially after they see the Library's offer of Books from Molar Office. Gaze Office is forced to enter the Library for answers.

Molar Office's defeat in the Library prevents Myo from receiving the intel on the Library that she needs, contributing to the much later involvement of R Corp's Fourth Pack with the Library.

Key Page stories[]

Mika’s Page

Every useful workshop technology is patented. The City strictly forbade making or selling products using technology patented by another workshop without purchasing the rights to it. If anyone infringes this regulation and still uses technology they shouldn’t have access to… They will receive a cease and desist letter up to three times. When you receive the warning, you must pay all profit you’ve earned through the infringement to A Corp. as a fine. Why A Corp. out of all places? Because that’s the corporate in charge of managing and granting all patents. It’s the Head we’re talking about. In any case, if you can’t pay the penalty by the third warning… The Claw will tear you down.

To tell you the truth… Yes. I’m the daughter of a small workshop owner. My father dreamed to make his little brand famous one day. Its name was… Sorry, I don’t feel like saying it out loud. It’s long gone, so you’ll get nothing even if you look for it. That’s right. As I explained moments ago… If you can’t spit out the money you illegitimately earned from manufacturing or selling products using stolen technology, punishment awaits. W-wait, please listen to my story to the end. My father was a victim of fraud. His friend gave him a technology and asked him to make weapons for his Office out of it, so he made them per his request. He didn’t even realize that the technology was stolen from someone else. He’d already sent the weapons to the Office, and when he was waiting for his friend to test them out and transfer the payment, a cease and desist was sent. …You can guess the rest of this story.

Myo and I are old friends. I honestly don’t ‘member how our first meeting went, other than being Backstreets buddies, but eh… That just goes to show how long our friendship’s been, don’t it? We’ve done requests together, been in life or death situations together. We’d been too busy to contact each other often ever since I moved to this Office, but then Myo called me out for a date one day.

Maybe it was because I got to drink with my old friend after a long while, or maybe it was the honor of having a seat with the famous captain of the Rabbit Team, but I was in a mighty good mood. I was taking swig after swig of booze… Rain would’ve scolded me for sure if I went back drunk as a broom, I felt that… But that happens all the time anyway, so I didn’t care much. “How’s it going?” “So-so, how about you?” “Same as you, lass.” After some meaningless chatters, Myo gasped like she remembered something and started skimming through her fanny pack. Then she shot me a stealthy look.

“Psst, Olga. Come closer. We don’t want anyone peeping at us, so stick right next to me. And stay quiet!”

“You’re the noisiest one here and you already stick out like a sore thumb, so just say it already.”

“You’re not a woman of style, are you. It’s more fun to talk like we’re secret agents exchanging confidential info when we’re discussing topics like this! It’s stylish that way. Forget it, R Corp. has been investigating something of late. It’s…”

“Are you giving work to our Office? Or are you just bragging. By the way, I guess it’s pretty serious if R Corp. is paying attention to whatever that is, just how big is it? Oh, I heard people’s been going missing lately… Does it have anything to do with that? Or…”

“Shut up and listen for a sec! You always have too much to say… Here’s the deal, Olga; I’ve got a lush grassland to show you, so graze it to your heart’s content and bring some of its veggies for me. How’s it sound?”

Some words she chose. I clicked me tongue and took a close look at the black card and WARP train tickets Myo pushed to my side, before drinking off my glass and agreeing to give it a go. I wouldn’t have taken it if I’d known it’d bring us to this complete lunacy.

Rain’s Page

When an Office accepts a request, an official deed of contract must be drawn up before the case can be dealt with. It sounds big, but it’s basically just a mutual promise; I think it’s “consideration” in legal terms. The client will pay a certain amount of money as reward, and the Fixers will do their best to resolve the case… They’re plain and natural clauses for the most part. It seems people in this City are prone to breaking promises as simple as those without a contract to bind them, though. In any case, contracts serve as physical evidence to prove our performance and secure our payment when we submit reports to the Association. Without a contract, there’s no assurance that we’ll score a record for our career or get our due payment. To give you an example, Big Sis resolved a huge case the other day, but we got absolutely nothing out of it because she forgot to sign a contract for it.

Requests made by Wings are quite different from those assigned by the Associations in several aspects. You’ll be made the envy of everyone once you get a request from a Wing. First of all, a Wing commissioning a regular Office indicates that the Office has been recognized to be worthy of its trust, and that alone can be a significant achievement. You’ll have something to brag about to other Fixers… And the payment is big as well. A single request from a Wing resolved can keep us afloat for three months minimum. If I must be honest, however, I am rather… unnerved. As rewarding as work given by Wings can be, there’s significant risk associated with it. Imagine how dangerous and difficult this mission may be if R Corp, a Wing specializing in combat, requested us to resolve it for them. Big Sis happily accepted the job, though I still can’t help but be worried a little. Still… I hope it goes well.

Trivia[]

  • Olga's Page has an alternate appearance, sporting a flat chest and slightly thicker legs, which can be selected when customizing a Librarian. The only other pages that share this quirk are Meow's and Dino's.
  • This Episode has the first mention of Myo, previously a side character from Lobotomy Corporation.
  • After the events of The Reverb Ensemble Distorted, it was confirmed that the individuals found in this reception has resurfaced from their book forms during the events of Limbus Company, albeit under a different office name due to their current predicament.
